Since my Dad was in town and my mom and him used to always refinish furniture I thought I would take advantage of his expert advice. We set out for Lowes to pick up some Kilz, sanding paper, drop cloth, and paint brushes. I had big plans of working on my new vanity this past weekend.
After Lowes we ran a few errands and stopped in for lunch at “The Pub” – Guinness, green beer, and some small plates for us!
We knew that the Buckeyes were playing so we headed downtown to Park Street and parked (no pun intended – ha) ourselves in front of a TV to watch the home team. Again, it was in the 70s – amazing weather for March in Ohio I’ve been told… At least we don’t have that nasty pollen that apparently is covering South Carolina as we speak..!
We went back home and we started sanding down the vanity – Reese supervised the whole process.
I have an electric sander and it happens to be one of the two power tools that we own. I bought a sander when we first moved to Ohio because my aunt gave us her Antique bed but they don’t make ¾ box springs like they used to so I tried to sand down the edges of our FULL box spring so that it would fit in the frame.. well it may not have been the best decision in the long run but it worked and here I am using the sander again! J that was a fun trip down memory lane – I’m pretty sure Ryan had no idea what he was getting into…! What can I say… I like a good project!
Sunday
On Sunday morning we headed to church, it was our church’s 2ndanniversary and it was a great service – we laughed as the pastor and other team members who started the church reminisced over the past 2 years, it truly is amazing what can happen in a short amount of time!
After church we headed to NorthStar for Brunch for the Birthday Boy! Yep – my dad’s birthday was Sunday! I was actually brought home from the hospital on his birthday – aww… 😉 Words can’t explain how good NorthStar’s breakfasts are – it deserves an entirely separate post all together.
We walked around Easton for a bit, and then headed to the grocery store to pick up some ‘supplies’ for….. SUSHI! Ryan and I gave Dad a sushi kit for Christmas last year and he has gotten really good at it – you’ll see!
When we arrived home, I headed to the garage to put the Kilz on the vanity. It is recommend so that the paint has something to stick to – I think it acts like a primer..!
I had two supervisors this time – Kdawg and his canine partner in crime! Wine and a cigar for the birthday boy!
The vanity is coming along and up until Sunday afternoon I didn’t have a clue what color I wanted to paint it. While we were at Easton we walked into Restoration Hardware and I saw a table that was a dark gray, blue, green color and I fell in love with it. I think it would be the perfect compliment to our bright bedspread, and light gray curtains… So we set out for Lowes again and I picked Olympic Paint’s “Flannel Gray” – I think it’s a classic color and I will be able to use it for other projects down the road.
Have you ever had to pick out a paint color – someone needs to think up a process to make it not so overwhelming – all those colors! How do you ever decide?!
On our way back from Lowe’s – a monster of a storm hit the area with hail like I’ve never seen. Don’t worry we were ok but I don’t take Tornado Warnings too lightly these days..
On to Dinner… Dad got to work and made a masterpiece! One vegetable roll with Cream Cheese, Avocado, and Carrots. Two tuna rolls with veggies and some Tuna and Salmon for Dad.
Happy Birthday Dad! Thanks for coming to spend the weekend with me! Time flies when you are having fun!
