St. Paddy’s Day and Another Birthday

Since my Dad was in town and my mom and him used to always refinish furniture I thought I would take advantage of his expert advice. We set out for Lowes to pick up some Kilz, sanding paper, drop cloth, and paint brushes. I had big plans of working on my new vanity this past weekend.

After Lowes we ran a few errands and stopped in for lunch at “The Pub” – Guinness, green beer, and some small plates for us!

We knew that the Buckeyes were playing so we headed downtown to Park Street and parked (no pun intended – ha) ourselves in front of a TV to watch the home team. Again, it was in the 70s – amazing weather for March in Ohio I’ve been told… At least we don’t have that nasty pollen that apparently is covering South Carolina as we speak..!

We went back home and we started sanding down the vanity – Reese supervised the whole process.

I have an electric sander and it happens to be one of the two power tools that we own. I bought a sander when we first moved to Ohio because my aunt gave us her Antique bed but they don’t make ¾ box springs like they used to so I tried to sand down the edges of our FULL box spring so that it would fit in the frame.. well it may not have been the best decision in the long run but it worked and here I am using the sander again! J that was a fun trip down memory lane – I’m pretty sure Ryan had no idea what he was getting into…! What can I say… I like a good project!

Sunday

On Sunday morning we headed to church, it was our church’s 2ndanniversary and it was a great service – we laughed as the pastor and other team members who started the church reminisced over the past 2 years, it truly is amazing what can happen in a short amount of time!

After church we headed to NorthStar for Brunch for the Birthday Boy! Yep – my dad’s birthday was Sunday! I was actually brought home from the hospital on his birthday – aww… 😉 Words can’t explain how good NorthStar’s breakfasts are – it deserves an entirely separate post all together.

We walked around Easton for a bit, and then headed to the grocery store to pick up some ‘supplies’ for….. SUSHI! Ryan and I gave Dad a sushi kit for Christmas last year and he has gotten really good at it – you’ll see!

When we arrived home, I headed to the garage to put the Kilz on the vanity. It is recommend so that the paint has something to stick to – I think it acts like a primer..!

I had two supervisors this time – Kdawg and his canine partner in crime! Wine and a cigar for the birthday boy!

The vanity is coming along and up until Sunday afternoon I didn’t have a clue what color I wanted to paint it. While we were at Easton we walked into Restoration Hardware and I saw a table that was a dark gray, blue, green color and I fell in love with it. I think it would be the perfect compliment to our bright bedspread, and light gray curtains… So we set out for Lowes again and I picked Olympic Paint’s “Flannel Gray” – I think it’s a classic color and I will be able to use it for other projects down the road.

Have you ever had to pick out a paint color – someone needs to think up a process to make it not so overwhelming – all those colors! How do you ever decide?!

On our way back from Lowe’s – a monster of a storm hit the area with hail like I’ve never seen. Don’t worry we were ok but I don’t take Tornado Warnings too lightly these days..

On to Dinner… Dad got to work and made a masterpiece! One vegetable roll with Cream Cheese, Avocado, and Carrots. Two tuna rolls with veggies and some Tuna and Salmon for Dad.

Happy Birthday Dad! Thanks for coming to spend the weekend with me! Time flies when you are having fun!

Turning 26

So I turned 26 last Friday! It will be hard to top 25… it was a big year, I became a married woman and a puppy parent. Can’t wait to see what year 26 has in store!

Ryan took me out to dinner Thursday to Mellow Mushroom because he had to leave early Friday morning for work. Apparently, Thursday night at Mellow Mushroom is Trivia night and we ended up winning a $10 Gift Card – Team Potter! Team Ryan actually – he is a trivia fool! Needless to say, this sweet girl and I miss him but she is doing a very good job of keeping things interesting around here.

Some of my coworkers made 3 different cakes: mocha angel food cake with melt in your mouth mocha icing, heath bar cake, and chocolate cupcakes and chocolate icing (the mocha angel food cake was to die for) – it was so thoughtful and I may or may not have tried all 3 of them – hey it was my birthday!

Since my man left town for the weekend – of course I don’t hold it against him or anything 😉 Dad came to the rescue!

Dad got in town around 4:00 and I opened some presents while Reese got her belly rubbed by “Kdawg”… She LOVED it!

Present time!

Ryan’s parents sent me a double sided vanity mirror with a light. I can’t tell you how perfect this gift was. You’ll see why in a later post 😉

My brother, Ross, got me 3 candles and some linen spray from a local candle factory in Spartanburg – I LOVE smelly candles!

Ryan got me two books I’ve been wanting, new headphones (actually from Reese since she ruined my old pair one morning) and a new vanity and chair from Goodwill that I scored for $50 Smile – I plan to refinish it and make it gorgeous!

My parents bought me some new running shoes and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM – I’ve already broken them in and in my mind they help me run really fast 😉

clip_image010

I love it all – I’m a lucky girl! Not to mention all of the “Reese” Birthday cards, the middle one melts my heart!

We kissed the pup goodbye and headed for Happy Hour at Matt the Millers. One of our favorite restaurants in Dublin – we sat in the bar and watched March Madness (Go Bucks!) while sipping on Blue Moon for me, Martini for Dad, and some appetizers. Did I mention that it was upwards of 70 in Ohio?!

Dad made dinner reservations for us at Tucci’s in downtown Dublin – a restaurant I’ve ALWAYS wanted to try! It was worth the wait – every bite was SO good. We ordered my favorite bottle of wine – Meiomi Bell Glos Pinot Noir. You are not going to believe this – their special was Fried Green Tomatoes for an appetizer…! What is more southern than Fried Green Tomatoes!?! Of course we ordered them J Even though they were delicious they were cut really thick – I prefer the thin crispy ones!

Dad got the Seafood Pasta and I opted for the Mushroom Ravioli with Spicy Tomato Sauce – we both had left overs that we took home and enjoyed the next night. I didn’t bring my camera to dinner – wishing I would have but maybe my sweet husband will take me back there sometime soon!

Perfect way to start my 26th year – Thanks Dad!

Now I have to go workout because of all the food I ate…!
